Congratulations to our Shirlington staff for another job well done!

12/12/2011

This is to give acclaim to the staff and therapy I received at the Shirlington Jackson Clinic. In April I had a first total knee replacement, and from May to July, I was provided therapy by Jackie Andres and both Dan Jones and Ryan Battisti. I had a second total knee replacement in October followed by outpatient therapy from November to December. Again, Jackie, Dan and Ryan provided therapy. Their professionalism, skill, knowledge, and friendliness were exemplary.

The first replacement experience was very difficult. Were it not for the wonderful care, understanding, and skill of these great folks my rehabilitation would have been problematic. Fortunately, because they were so good, I was able to recover in eight weeks from my second knee replacement. I genuinely enjoyed going to the Jackson clinic and though they worked me very hard, their friendliness and cheer really motivated me to work hard.

I’ve rarely experienced such great care for a physical injury. The Jackson Clinics can be very proud to have such dedicated and skilled staff.

A heart felt testimonial from a patient who wanted us to know his therapist saved his life.

I am writing to inform you of the actions of one of your therapists, Brett Keefer, who very likely saved my life.

I was referred to physical therapy after an MRI of my calf showed a severe strain of the soleus. I had gone to my doctor on 25 October after experiencing pain in my calf following a short run on 19 October. The pain did not dissipate, so I made an appointment thinking that perhaps I needed new orthotics. My doctor ordered an MRI of my leg, and when the MRI showed no signs of tears, he prescribed physical therapy with the Jackson Clinic. My first appointment was the afternoon of 2 November.

When I arrived at the Tysons office, Brett greeted me and began to take my history. He examined my leg, which was swollen. The swelling included my ankle and knee, and he said he thought it was “shiny.” We talked about my injury and symptoms, and then Brett told me that he thought I might have a blood clot. He said that he would not work on me until I had my leg re-imaged with Doppler. He was very professional, but he did stress that I needed to get the imaging done immediately. He tried to reach my doctor, but he was not available, so Brett suggested I go the hospital for imaging. He walked me to my car and I assured him I would see a doctor.

I proceeded to go the Emergency Room at INOVA Fairfax, as suggested. To make a long story short, I had a severe clot extending from my groin to mid-calf and multiple pulmonary emboli in both lungs. I was not experiencing any symptoms other than leg pain. I was admitted to the hospital Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday a vascular team put in an IVC filter to keep additional clots out of my lungs, and they inserted a sheath into my leg to deliver blood thinners directly to the clot. The sheath was removed Saturday, and I came home on Sunday. I am doing well, on blood thinners, and following up with a primary care physician.

The staff in the Emergency Room said I was very lucky, and I concur. If Brett had not sent me to the hospital, I would have continued to limp around on my leg and it is likely I would have endangered myself even more.

I am deeply indebted to Brett, and I want you know what he did to save my life.

R Jackson,

I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to your staff at your Shrirlington, Arlington, Virginia Clinic, for helping me in my rehabilitation after my anterior cervical discectomy & fusion surgery in May 2011. Of particular note, I would like to thank Jacqueline Andres and Dan Jones, for putting up with me during my many sessions.

I must tell that I was not thrilled with the physical therapy process after my experiences with a Brand X outfit in Fairfax earlier this year. But from the first day I went into your Shirlington Clinic, I knew I was in the right place to get well. To compare your operation with the Brand X outfit would be like comparing night to day. You all are a cut above even the best!

When I went to see my neurologist earlier this month, he told me that I may never get back to fully normal. However, I feel I am at least at 90 percent and with what your folks taught, I may try to prove my neurologist wrong.

What more can I say? But thanks to Jackie, Dan, and the crew at your Shirlington Clinic.

Well Done…

Mr. Jackson:

I just wanted to commend your staff at the Walker Lane clinic, in Springfield. I’ve been going to the clinic over the past three years, first for my back, then my shoulder, and most recently, my neck. I was just released, yesterday, by Alisha for my neck. For my back and shoulder, I had Cassie, and occasionally, Patti and Tony.

Everyone of the staff were friendlly and very professional. These people know what they’re doing. I recently brought my nephew, who is a PTA from Seattle, and he was very impressed with the whole operation. My sincerest regards go to the staff, with thanks to Patti, Cassie, Alisha, Laura, Lauren, Hillary, Nicole, Tony, and, last but not least, to April who runs the front desk.

I am a water aerobics instructor for Fairfac County and have several clients who go to your clinic, and they also have special praise for this clinic.

Please take time to forward this email to all in the Walker Lane clinic, as listed above. I think they would appreciate it.

The Capital Spine & Pain Centers referred me to the Jackson Clinics as an alternative to injections of pain medication for my condition. At my first appointment at the Fairfax,Va clinic Kris Porter carefully analyzed my condition and assured me that physical therapy would greatly relieve me of my pains. The staff was always cheerful and treated me as an individual rather than a person in a group of people doing exercises. I am a senior person, over 80 years of age, and the staff was always careful to have patience and make sure my capabilities were not exceeded. I am thankful for their understanding. At my last appointment Kris Porter prepared a schedule of daily exercises for to keep flexible and muscle strong. He carefully had me demonstrate the exercises to ensure I was doing them properly. I continually feel the progress and certainly do not miss the old pains. To reiterate, I have nothing but praise for the entire staff and thank them.

Praise for our Oakton office. Way to go team!

Mr. Jackson,

In February 2011, I underwent knee replacement surgery and began physical therapy in early March. During the many weeks of rehabilitation, Laura was my therapist. I wanted to share with you how impressed I was her ability to motivate me to continue the exercises at home as well as offer her expertise regarding the mechanics of the knee along with any other relevant questions. Her sense of humor brightened my demeanor on days of discomfort, and her ability to plan a meaningful and successful rehab program deserves tremendous praise. Indeed, I have told others about Jackson Clinics and how, in over 20 years of on-and-off therapy for a variety of issues, Ms. Nielsen is far and away the BEST therapist I have ever been associated with!

I would also offer praise to Sonya, the exercise assistant, at the Oakton office. Her warm personality served to encourage me on many occasions!

Again, please accept my congratulations for employing such fine individuals and allowing them to significantly assist in my healing.

Thank you!

P.S. I completed PT a few weeks ago and feel great! Walking has never been a more fulfilling experience!

I want to commend Alyson Randolph to you.

I have seen her a number of times for the problems I am having with my back. She is truly outstanding in what she does, and is such an wonderful representative for your practice.

Alyson has an unbelievable amount of knowledge and has many, many techniques to help her patients. But I am most impressed by her personality, attitude, customer service, and caring.

Alyson has a way of handling a number of patients and issues at once, but making each feel like their needs are special and that her attention is focused on them. Also, she is always quick to help, whether it is to get a patient’s treatment started or to help them check-out.

I truly feel fortunate to have someone like Alyson help me with my care. Please share my comments with her and thank her for the excellent treatment she has been giving me.

My deep appreciation to Dr. Brett Keefer and exercise specialist Ally Randolf for their expert knowledge and ability to define and supervise exercises for my torn rotator cuff. Over a period of 11 sessions my pain is substantially reduced, I can sleep more easily, and I am confident that the improvement will continue as I press on with the multiple upper-body exercises they defined. My golf swing is substantially painless and unrestricted.

Aug. 15, 2011 - TJC helps a patient get ready for the Nation's Triathlon!

Dear Ken, Angie, Matt, and Ryan,

I cannot begin to tell you all how truly thankful I am for all of your hard work and support after my injury. Who would have thought the broken, fat, middle-aged woman that hobbled into The Jackson Clinics Lorton Office in January would be writing a race report for a triathlon swim leg in August, 50 lbs lighter and a whole lot healthier!? You all believed in me, you pushed me, you coached me, and you gave me all the tools I needed to recover. I used everything you taught me to prep and make it through this weekend and meet my goal of finishing an open water swim. Yes, the endorphins have worn off, and my injuries are complaining. It may be a year or more before I finish a bike leg or (horrors) a run. But you have taught me what I need to know to continue to heal and push myself to reach my potential – whatever that may be.

You will be happy to know, Ryan, that I dragged my inflatable mattress out of my tent into the middle of the “tent city” field and did my PT exercises – ALL OF THEM – without embarrassment. And Ken, I sat down before before my back started hurting and stood up before my back started hurting over and over to the point people were asking me if I was nervous about the race! And nobody thought it odd that I would randomly start turning my neck and raising my arm Matt, the hip flexor stretches and tips for numb toes did the trick – especially right before the swim. And Angie, what can I say? Your constant positive energy and humor made even the most frustrating sessions fun. Plus you agreed to give up you know what for a day if I finished the swim!

And most importantly, as ridiculous as the idea was at the time, when I announced I was going to do a triathlon, Ken, you and your staff supported me 1000%. Yes, I hurt today, but so do all of the Luray triathletes. My recovery will be longer than most, but I will recover and continue to get stronger. To do that I know I must move (after RICE of course) – you have taught me that! Being still is NOT a long term option.

I am really psyched to get out on the bike and test the fit (rain kept me off it this weekend). I won’t be ready for Nation’s or Patriot’s, but I AM doing a pool sprint in September and Waterman’s in Indian Head in October. I’ve decided to skip Florida in October and instead reward myself with the St. Anthony’s Tri in St. Pete in March if I meet my goal of finishing a full tri this year. That’s where my daughter was born, and is a worthwhile charity.

So much for ‘once and done’! I’ll be back in 100 miles or so to let you know how the bike fit is. In the meantime, keep doing what you are doing because you ARE making a very real difference in your patients’ lives everyday!

Thanks again and again.

BTW, I finished 15 out of 21 in the relay group on the swim leg! 750m in 24:29. And I NEVER would have even tried it without Team Jackson
