Ben Birley, Physical Therapist
Ben Birley, PT, DPT
Ben graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in August 2020. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. While at MUSC, Ben had a hand in a pilot study in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and its effect on lower extremity motor units.
Ben has an interest and background in orthopedic injuries, post-operative rehabilitation, postural re-education, and powerlifting. During a clinical rotation, Ben became interested in a series of studies detailing Olympic-style weightlifting and its effects on bone density in postmenopausal women and otherwise low bone density men. He very much enjoys teaching people who have never done a deadlift in their life how to perform one well and loves showing people who never thought they\\\\\\\’d go near a barbell how rewarding strength training can be. Athletes who know their way around a gym are also in Ben\’s wheelhouse, and he enjoys ironing out their approach to pumping iron.
Despite doing all his higher education in the state of South Carolina, Ben had never previously set foot in the state and instead grew up in North Carlina and Georgia. He enjoys working out and watching a great many sports, chiefly baseball. He is an Atlanta sports fan, for better or (more commonly) worse. He also greatly enjoys speaking in their person about himself (jk)
