The Jackson Clinics Physical Therapy in Shirlington Brittany Cogbill, PT, DPT, OCS

Education: Brittany is a graduate of George Washington University with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She completed her undergraduate work at Brigham Young University with a degree in exercise science.

Specialties: Brittany is experienced in treating all orthopedic injuries and has a special interest in post-operative rehab. She also enjoys working with young athletes and helping them in returning to their sport safely. As a certified LSVT BIG clinician, she specializes in helping patients with Parkinson’s disease improve their balance, walking and ability to perform everyday activities and enjoys helping them improve their confidence in performing work and recreational activities.

Fun Facts: Brittany enjoys playing basketball, softball and flag football as well as watching college football in the fall. She also likes traveling. Her favorite place in the world is Costa Rica where she has lived twice and enjoyed learning Spanish, bungee jumping and eating rice and beans every day like a true Costa Rican.

Helen Goldfrank, Physical Therapist

Physical Therapist Helen Goldfrank, PT, DPT

Education: Helen graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in May 2017. She completed her undergraduate work at Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a minor in Philosophy. She is able to see patients through direct access. Helen has been a member of the APTA since 2015.

Specialties: Helen has a strong interest in orthopedic injuries. She has a broad athletic background including tennis, indoor and outdoor cycling, yoga, competitive weightlifting, and Crossfit. She also has experience working with pediatric patients.

Fun Facts: In her free time, Helen can be found reading, writing, doing anything and everything outdoors, and making granola. Her current favorite creation is a toasted coconut chocolate granola which pairs well with plain yogurt and a Murakami novel.

Education: Katie graduated from Lynchburg College with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in May 2018. She completed her undergraduate work at Purdue University in movement and Health Sciences. Katie has been an APTA member since 2011.

Specialties: Katie is passionate about the field of orthopedics, with a special interest in injury prevention for athletes of all ages and levels. She additionally is driven to provide care to underserved populations and has volunteered in pro-bono clinics and community outreach programs.

Fun Facts: Katie is a former collegiate rower, and loves to stay active with recreational sports including basketball and weight lifting.

Samy Shihata Samy Shihata, PT

Education: Samy graduated from Curtin University in Perth, Australia with a degree in Physiotherapy in February 2009. He is currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety at Curtin University.

Specialties: Samy has spent several years in orthopedic outpatient PT, and has also had experience in ergonomics, occupational health & safety, and injury management for the mining industry in Australia. Through his experience, Samy has developed a strong interest in rehabilitation from musculoskeletal injuries, neck and back pain, ergonomics, and occupational PT.

Fun Facts: Samy moved to Northern Virginia from Perth, Australia, with his wife in April 2015. He enjoys traveling, music, basketball and eating good food, so the U.S. is the perfect place for him to be!

Education: Shawna graduated from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in May 2018. She also completed her undergraduate work at SRU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. Shawna has been a member of the APTA since 2016.

Specialties: Shawna has a strong interest in orthopedic injuries and post-operative rehabilitation. She also has experience working with patients with neurological pathologies and balance disorders.

Fun Facts: Shawna considers herself solar powered and enjoys all things outdoors – hiking, swimming, kayaking, sitting on the beach, bonfires – you name it! She loves being active and spending time with her family and friends.

Education: Rachel graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training in 2010. She is nationally certified as an Athletic Trainer through the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification and is licensed through the Virginia Board of Medicine.

Specialties: Rachel has a special interest working with athletes of all ages who are trying to return to the playing field, and has worked with the Washington Nationals. She also has experience in Basic and Advanced Fundamentals of the Kinesiotaping Method.

Fun Facts: Rachel has been involved in sports all her life and is a huge baseball fan. Her favorite team is the Boston Red Sox. She is still involved with slow pitch softball and dodgeball.

Kyle Hamblen, Exercise Specialist

Kyle Hamblen,

Education: Kyle graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Health & Exercise Science from Bridgewater College. He is currently seeking certification in Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

Specialties: Kyle loves to work with athletes who want to return to play. This includes any sport and age, from young figure skaters, high school athletes, dancers, triathlon/marathoners, or any other activity.

Fun Facts: Kyle loves playing sports, especially basketball, softball, and golf. He is a basketball coach for the Reston Youth Basketball League ages 11-12. In his spare time, Kyle enjoys making custom cornhole boards.
